It’s that time again!
Our SENT Initiative students are back in the 336—rested, ready, and recharged [hopefully] for the best two months of their college career!
Thinking back to my time as a City Project student and intern, I cannot believe the summer is already upon us along with another summer of SENT Initiative. I am thrilled for these students and excited to see them get immersed into community and deepen their relationship with the Lord. Yet, above all, I am confident the Lord will use each of these students for kingdom work this summer, growing their awe and wonder of Jesus and pushing them to total reliance on the Spirit.
I sit here, writing this blog as a new College Resident, wondering how I find myself in this new season of life today. It is then that I’m reminded of a soft, quiet calling by my sweet, yet sovereign Father, who began preparing in me a desire for ministry two summers ago as a City Project student.
That. That calling, that seed, that beginning the Lord so graciously walked me into, is why I am stoked for this summer’s SENT Initiative students.
Every summer, the Lord blows us out of the water, humbles us with his mighty hand in the ways he works, and uses and grows students throughout summer projects. Paul reminds us of God’s infinite works in Ephesians: “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). This summer might be filled with expectations or anticipations or, even, uncertainties. But God. He will do according to his gracious and sovereign will, an almighty God who is able to do far more than our finite minds could ever reach!
The truth is we serve a gracious and loving Father who invites us into his mission to do the works we were created for in Christ Jesus! City Project is a time to invest two months into understanding and joining in with God’s mission. City Life offers students a chance to see how all of life is worship, even (and especially) their work. These students will experience the joy of simply knowing Jesus and his gospel. They will taste the beauty of deep, Christian community. They have the chance to rest in the presence of our Creator. These students get to enjoy all of who God is, all that he has done, and all that he will do. How could I not be stoked for the summer!?
While every summer is different—different students, seasons, and experiences—it is always one filled with friendship, laughter, and the sweetest of memories. I have no idea what will come of this summer, but I’m confident we will look back in August and praise God for the past two months!! SENT Initiative students, I hope you are ready for the time of your life, and it’s an honor to share these next months with you!
God, may you raise up leaders this summer! May you plant and nourish hearts for the nations this summer. Would you create kingdom workers this summer? And yet, Lord, I know you can do immensely more!
