Seeing Jesus in Every Part of the Bible

September 5, 2025

If you’ve ever opened your Bible and thought, “How does this fit? What does this story even mean for me today?” you’re not alone. The truth is, every page of Scripture, every story, every promise, even the hard-to-understand passages, ultimately point to Jesus.

That’s what Christ-centered view of the Bible is all about. It’s not just finding “inspiration” in the Bible, or pulling out a moral lesson. It’s about seeing Christ at the center of redemptive history, the one the whole storyline of Scripture revolves around. When we learn to read the Bible this way, everything changes.

How Jesus Read the Scriptures

Two passages make this crystal clear:

The Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-47)

After His resurrection, Jesus walked with two discouraged disciples who couldn’t make sense of what had just happened. And what did He do?

“Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (Luke 24:27)

From Genesis to Malachi—the Law, the Prophets, the Psalms—Jesus said, “It’s all about me.”

Jesus Before the Religious Leaders (John 5:30-47)

In John 5, Jesus stood in what felt like a courtroom scene. He called witness after witness: John the Baptist, the Father, the Scriptures themselves. And then He delivered the verdict:

“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me.” (John 5:39)

In other words, If you miss Jesus, you’ve missed the point, even if you know your Bible! From the New Testament author and the earliest days of Christianity, the Church has read the Bible this way!

How to See Jesus in Any Part of the Bible

So how does this help you when you open your Bible on a Monday morning? Here are some simple ways the Bible points us to Christ:

  • Types and Figures: Old Testament leaders like Moses or David were shadows of the true Savior.
  • Promises: Every promise God made finds its “Yes” in Jesus.
  • Themes: Covenant, kingdom, exile, rest – all completed in Him.
  • Images: The Passover lamb, the temple, the bronze serpent, they all point to Christ’s sacrifice and salvation!
  • Storyline: The Bible isn’t 66 random books, it’s one story of redemption, climaxing in Jesus.

Over time, the more familiar you become with Scripture, the more natural it becomes to spot Christ at the center.

Why This Matters for Us

Here’s why this isn’t just an academic idea:

  • It changes how you read the Bible. You stop looking for quick self-help tips and start seeing the Savior.
  • It changes how you hear sermons. The point isn’t “try harder.” The point is “trust Jesus.”
  • It changes how you live. Commands like those in James stop being exhausting when you realize that Jesus has already fulfilled them and now empowers you to obey.

Final Word: From “Be Better” to “See Jesus”

Here’s the bottom line: The Bible isn’t about you. It’s about Jesus, the true hero who saves and sustains you.

So the next time you open your Bible don’t just ask, “What should I do?” Ask, “Where is Jesus here?”

Because he’s not just part of the story – Jesus is the story!
