No One Like You (Psalm 113)

Recently, at Mercy Hill, we’ve been singing a new song from Psalm 113 called “No One like You.”  This psalm paints a beautiful picture of the gospel and calls every living creature of every nation to praise the Lord both now and forever.

God’s holiness and greatness is unparalleled, yet he humbled himself to lift the poor from dust and the needy from the ash heap – which is basically a pile for garbage and sewage. The poor and needy are not just people with low status, but those who are loathsome and rightly abominable to God. The poor and needy are the descendants of fallen Adam. We are the poor and the needy. But through Christ’s work, He lifts us up from the ash heap and adopts us as his sons and daughters, to sit with the princes of his inheritance.

Who else would do that? No wonder the psalmist didn’t feel the need to answer the question “Who is like the Lord our God?” There is no one like Him, and He is worthy of our praise! We will be singing this song again Sunday. Here’s the Psalm and lyrics to muse over:

Psalm 113
Praise the Lord!

Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!

Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be praised!

The Lord is high above all nations,
and his glory above the heavens!
Who is like the Lord our God,
who is seated on high,
who looks far down
on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap,
to make them sit with princes,
with the princes of his people.
He gives the barren woman a home,
making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord!

No One like You

[Verse 1]

From the rising of the sun to its setting
From this moment on until forever more
For the beauty of your love that’s never-ending
Jesus, we praise you

[Verse 2]

Seated high above the nations you created
And your glory goes beyond the brightest star
In the presence of your splendor and your greatness
Jesus, we praise you

[Chorus]

We bless your name
We sing your praise
There’s no one like you
No one like you
We shout your fame
Your kingdom reigns
There’s no one like you
No one like you

[Bridge]

You raise the poor from dust
You lift the needy up
You call us as your own
Your name above all names
Demands our highest praise
Jesus, to you alone
