Mercy Hill College - Alicia Hall

My Favorite Night of the Week

It’s that time of year again. You know what I’m talking about. The time when all college students come pouring into the Triad like no tomorrow because it’s the start of classes, schedules, and work. But with the start of a new school year, there was one major thing I was looking forward to the most. That one thing has made everything different for this upcoming school year. That thing is the start of MH College Live. The countdown is over and all the campuses from all over the Triad are finally together, united, for ONE service. Our college staff, worship team, and tech team have put in an insane amount of work to ensure that these services would create an atmosphere of belonging for those who attend regularly as well as for those who have never set foot in Mercy Hill or church in general.

So, here’s a recap of the best night of the week:

I was so excited to get into the building that when I pulled into the parking lot, I nearly took off another person’s door. (Don’t worry, no humans or cars were harmed in the process of me parking.) Once people got inside, you could feel the excitement around you. This was the night we had been waiting for and inviting people to as car loads of students pulled in. It was here. IT WAS HAPPENING.

Honestly, not a lot can beat a hype worship and teaching service beside your friends (or new friends from another college campus). There is a sense of unity that occurs when the colleges across the Triad are gathered together to worship Jesus as one college-aged body, and it is something that is incredibly beautiful. Another aspect of MH College Live was having Pastor Andrew there as well as some of the other pastoral staff. The fact that not only is our college staff for our good but the pastoral team along with them, speaks volumes to us as students.

Now, just when you think it can’t get any better, it does.

As a college student, if you have free food (or free anything to be honest), you can pretty much get us to do just about anything. And as if that wasn’t enough, we got a t-shirt too?! When I say this was the best night, I mean it. What more could you want?

All of this is great. But there is still one thing that I loved most out of the whole night, and that was the heartbeat behind why we have the college service. MH College fully believes that if we reach the campus, we reach the world. As college students, we are in one of the most strategic places ever. We see people from many different nations every single day on campus, and we sit right next to them in our classes. If we reach them, if we invite them, if we give them a place of belonging, then they have the chance of hearing the gospel for either the first time or the hundredth time. Sometimes it takes that hundredth time for it to click. There is something one of the members on college staff says often that always reminds me of why we are doing what we do. It’s this: “Their passport can take them places ours can’t.”

So, if you ask me what my favorite part of MH College Live service is? The answer is the mission behind it. What we are reminded of when we gather together. The atmosphere we create with community and belonging can be given to someone else through MH College Live services on Sunday nights, and that is the best thing.
