Every summer, dozens of college students stay in the Triad to participate in the SENT Initiative with Mercy Hill College. Host homes are an integral part of the summer. Becoming a host home can be a very rewarding and life-changing experience, not only for the students but for your family, as well. This is a perfect opportunity for you to bless and speak into the lives of younger people as they grow deeper in their relationship with the Lord. If you’re interested in hosting a student this summer, please click one of the two links below to register. Scroll down the page for additional information.
As a host home, you will be providing students with a place to live. You are opening up your home to a college student for six weeks to two months, allowing them the opportunity to see Christian community modeled. Hosting is a great opportunity to serve Mercy Hill college students as they serve the Lord this summer.
What do we need to provide for them while in our home?
You will need to provide the student with a place to sleep, shower, cook, and do laundry. Other elements of hospitality are optional (water bottles, snacks, etc.), but are welcomed.
What is the time commitment?
City Project and City Life are six-week projects: May 19th-June 28th (City Life participants who work a job will need a place to live the whole summer). Trek is a two-week international mission trip in which some students may also participate. Important dates to keep in mind are below:
City Project & City Life Move-in Day
City Project in Greensboro
City Project NYC (tentatively)
May 30-June 27
City Project in Greensboro
City Project Tampa Trip | City Life D.C. Trip
Sent Banquet (all projects)
City Project Move-out Day
June 30-July 12
Trek (tentative dates)
City Life Move-out Day (if needed)
What is the students’ typical schedule?
Students participating in City Project will leave early each morning and return in the evening. They will have Friday and Saturdays off. This will be when they have their down time, so they will most likely be around the house more on these days. City Life student’s schedule will depend on their job or internship. They will attend forums every other Saturday throughout the summer.
What summer functions will I need to attend?
You are invited to attend the SENT Celebration night on June 27th. This is optional, but we would love for you to be there to support your student!
Am I required to provide meals?
You are not required to provide any meals. You may consider providing breakfast for your student, but most food will be taken care of by the church. Inviting them for dinner and family time is always a nice gesture and their participation will be dependent on their availability from day to day.
What “rules” should they follow while staying in our home?
You should discuss expectations and boundaries with your student. Invite them into how your home functions.
Are they allowed to spend the night out/in another place?
Yes, students may stay else where on special occasions or on the weekends. The expectation is that all students would stay with their respective host families during the week.
Can I host if I’m going on vacation one of the weeks?
Yes, we ask that you over-communicate with the student and with us when you will be gone. However, please be aware that if your vacation occurs while the students are in town, your student will still need to stay in your home.
