God Gives Growth | Day 3
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.” – 1 Corinthians 3:6-9
The reason prayer is so vital for the church to grow is because God must be involved. To grow a garden, a gardener must do a lot of things: plant seeds, amend the soil, pull weeds, water routinely; but the gardener doesn’t cause the plants to grow.
To grow the church, we all have a part to play by using the gifts, influence, and opportunities God has given each of us. But only God gives the growth.
Remembering this keeps us hopeful and humble.
- Hopeful because we know God is active in changing lives.
- And humble because growth is a gift we receive, not an outcome of our effort to boast about.
Asking God to grow His church aligns with His will because He has already promised, “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). So with that assurance and with the desire to see more people enter his Kingdom, we pray the church will grow this Easter.
