Cornerstone | Day 32
Have you ever played with building blocks? If you have, you know that the first block you place matters. Everything else stacks on top of it. If that first block is wobbly or wrong, the whole tower falls down!
Builders in Bible times understood this same idea. When they constructed a house or temple, they started with one very important stone called the cornerstone. This wasn’t just any rock. It was the biggest, strongest, and most carefully chosen stone. Every other stone in the building was measured and lined up according to this first stone. If the cornerstone was crooked, the whole building would be crooked!
“Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone.” – Ephesians 2:20
This is exactly why the Bible calls Jesus our cornerstone. Just like that first stone held an entire building together, Jesus holds our faith and our lives together. He is the foundation that everything else is built upon. And what a foundation He is! Acts 4:12 tells us that salvation comes through Jesus alone and that there is no other name that can save us. When we trust in Him, we have a solid place to stand, one that will never shake or crumble.
So, what does it look like to build our lives on Jesus as the cornerstone? It looks like reading God’s Word, praying, and asking Jesus to help us become more like Him each day.
When hard times come, we don’t have to be afraid. We can stand firm because our foundation is strong, chosen by God, and completely trustworthy.
Reflection Question
- What are some ways we can build our lives on Jesus this week?
- How can reading the Bible help us know our Cornerstone better?
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for being our Cornerstone — strong, faithful, and true. Help us build our lives on You and trust You in everything. Amen.
Family Activity (Optional)
Using blocks, Legos, or even a deck of cards, try building a tower twice — once starting with a wobbly or uneven base, and once with a solid, level foundation. Talk about what happened and how this reminds us why we need Jesus as our Cornerstone.
