This past summer I did City Life, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. City Life consisted of dinners with speakers that were outstanding. Each speaker delivered a message encouraging us to live out the gospel in our day-to-day work. Each speaker had their own way of delivering their message, and I was able to use all these messages when working in the real world—I still am!
City Life is unique. It is a way for college students to dive into the Bible together through dinners with guest speakers and through Community Group once a week by sharing what is going on in each other’s lives. In Community Group we learn about obstacles people are facing whether in their jobs for the summer, friendships, or whatever the case may be and pray through that with them. I have met such incredible brothers and sisters that have taught me so much and are such blessings in my life today.
Community at Home
Another amazing factor of City Life is being able to stay with a host family. I was especially blessed to have a family that was so loving, especially when I live so far away from home. I am still in constant contact with my host family and try to see them on a regular basis. The best thing about City Life this past summer was the constant community that I received. From text messages asking how my day was going to ones inviting me to lunch, there was always someone there.
It was also a blessing to be able to attend Community Group through the summer as well while others went home for the summer. My Community Group leaders were amazing! Each student got to lead one Community Group meeting.
Community with Other College Students
City Life taught me the skill of leadership. I was so nervous to lead my first Community Group meeting. I had never done it before, but with the help of my Community Group leaders, my host family, and most importantly, the Holy Spirit speaking within me the night I taught, I did it! The Lord moves people in such a way, and it’s incredible to see. I know for sure the Lord moved me. Now, I eventually want to lead my own Community Group for college students. One of my favorite verses that I constantly say to myself and live by is, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).
This verse speaks for itself. I trusted in the Lord, and City Life was the path for me this past summer. He for sure made it known. Now I ask you, are you leaning on him? Are you trusting in him? If he is speaking into your heart that City Life is for you, then sign up here! It was one of the best decisions I have EVER made!
