A big thanks to Charlotte Constantinidi – one of our students – for sharing her heart behind why she’s excited for the launch of “712”. Our weekly gathering of 7th-12th graders will provide an incredible opportunity for you to connect with other students and build relationships with college students and adults who care deeply about you. We look forward to seeing you in a week.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be surrounded by friends that love you so much and that would do anything to help you? Well that’s what it’s like to be in a youth group. A youth group is so much more than just a ‘group’ of people, your youth group becomes family, they build you up, and they completely change your life. As you grow in your walk with Christ, it’s important to be in community with other Christians so that if you ever fall, they’re there to pick you back up and dust you off.
I’m a sophomore at Northwest High school, and I am so excited for our new ”712” student ministry to kick-start because I feel this will open so many doors for so many amazing things to happen. I absolutely can’t wait to worship God with wonderful people that are on fire for Christ. Just imagine all the spectacular memories that will be made in as little as the next year! The time that we’ll be spending together and the relationships that we’ll be building with one another are so valuable. From personal experience, growing in Christ is so much easier when you have, not only superb friends, but also when you have great role models that encourage you daily.
The youth leaders here at Mercy Hill are so pumped and so on fire for Christ Once “712” starts, I picture the youth leaders being like fireworks, nothing at first then a powerful explosion of passion and love for Christ, who will then pour that passion and love into young teens lives. One of the other beautiful aspects of a youth group is that as the youth leaders are pouring into their teens lives, the teens may not realize it, but they are pouring right back into their youth leaders lives.
Everyone has a different explanation for what youth group is; you’ve already heard mine, so here are some others:
“Youth ministry is a Spirit-led discipleship process by which God works through Christian adults to lead teens into relationship with God and to Christlike maturity as part of the body of Christ, the church.” –Houston Heflin (Youth Pastor: The Theology and Practice of Youth Ministry.)
“A youth group is a social group for teenage kids led by adults that wish to share the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ. They meet regularly to hang out, play games, read the Bible and grow closer to Christ together.” –Wendy Rhodes
I really hope and pray that if you’re reading this you’ll consider joining us; I’d really love to meet you sometime at youth. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been going to church your whole life or if you don’t even know who Jesus Christ is, we’d absolutely love to have you come. Whether you’re in 7th grade or 12thgrade “712” is for you.
You can get all the info on when and where we’ll be meeting for “712” on our student page by clickinghere. We look forward to seeing you next Wednesday – August 27th – as we launch a movement of students for the glory of God here in the Triad.
